Subject to extensive regeneration projects in recent years, the town centre is now a bustling, pedestrianised shopping area popular with visitors.

There are several large shopping centres catering for every taste in central Solihull, from the older open-air Mell Square to the recently constructed indoor Touchwood Centre, which was opened by The Queen in 1994.

Several of the town's most famous establishments are more commonly associated with its larger neighbour Birmingham, such as the giant National Exhibition Centre and even the vast majority of the Birmingham International Airport complex.

Perhaps the most well-known employer in the town is the large Land Rover factory, which produces the majority of the company's range of vehicles.
